Treatment of Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency Anemia

Intravenous iron infusion allows for the rapid correction of iron deficiency when oral iron therapy is insufficient, poorly tolerated, or ineffective.

All infusions are administered under medical supervision following a prior medical assessment.

Which Iron Products Are Used?

Ferinject® (Ferric Carboxymaltose)

Ferinject® allows the administration of higher iron doses with fewer infusion sessions.

  • Ferinject® 500 mg = 1,371 MAD
    (1 vial of 10 mL containing 50 mg/mL)

  • Infusion procedure = 600 MAD

Venofer® (Iron Sucrose)

Venofer® is administered in smaller divided doses and usually requires multiple sessions.

Estimated Cost

  • Venofer® 100 mg = 94.8 MAD
    (1 ampoule of 100 mg / 5 mL)

  • Infusion procedure = 600 MAD

Total per 100 mg session

694.8 MAD

The total number of sessions depends on the iron deficit calculated during the consultation.

 

How Do We Choose the Type of Iron?

The choice between Ferinject® and Venofer® is made by the physician after reviewing your laboratory results and medical condition.

Ferinject®

Often preferred when:

  • The iron deficiency is significant

  • Rapid correction is desired

  • The patient wishes to reduce the number of appointments

Venofer®

May be preferred when:

  • A gradual administration approach is desired

  • Smaller doses are required

  • The treatment protocol involves several infusions over time

There is no universal solution; treatment is fully individualized for each patient.

How Does the Infusion Process Work?

Before the Infusion

  • Review of laboratory results

  • Confirmation of the medical indication

  • Assessment of medical history

  • Patient installation and monitoring setup

During the Infusion

  • Placement of an intravenous line

  • Slow administration of iron

  • Continuous clinical monitoring

After the Infusion

  • Medical observation for approximately 30 minutes

  • Assessment of treatment tolerance

  • Personalized medical advice

 

Safety

All infusions are performed with:

  • Continuous medical supervision

  • Emergency equipment immediately available

  • Strict adherence to safety protocols

  • Routine post-infusion observation

Severe allergic reactions are extremely rare with modern intravenous iron formulations.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects are generally mild and temporary:

  • Warm flushing sensation

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Dizziness

  • Temporary drop in blood pressure

  • Pain at the injection site

Insurance and Health Plan Reimbursement
